Today is a good day to back up your PC data & store it off-site. That’s what I’m doing since it is raining outside for the seventeenth day in a row. I’m making sure all my utilities are up to date, too.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009“The Father of Science Fiction”
Monday, September 21st, 2009If you know me at all, you know I loves me some science fiction. To honor the guy who started it all please allow me to say “Happy Birthday!” to H.G. Wells. If you have not caught any of his classic works or their derivations, do yourself a favor and read or watch one today.
Dismal
Friday, September 11th, 2009Today was far from uplifting, I tells ya.
The blog has been quiet for a while thanks to a database problem that cropped up after an upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. Sorry about that.
The 9/11 anniversary is always somber, so no shocker there, but the flu scare is getting, well, scary. Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis is opening a triage tent to handle the 350+ ER patients presenting daily, most with flu-like symptoms (but not necessarily actual flu or swine flu). The Walgreen’s in Covington was swamped with people who either had flu-like symptoms, were getting meds for someone with flu, or had someone in their family recently discharged from hospital for a flu.
I know several people who have some sort of communicable illness, a few have actually been diagnosed with H1N1 and are not doing well. My doctor thinks I contracted it and survived with no lingering effects. That’s a plus, I guess.
It is days like today that make me happy we have enough food, water and support systems to shelter in place for a year or so.
Have a good weekend all.
Weekend is go for launch!
Saturday, September 5th, 2009This evening was a total BLAST! Ted & family hosted us for their housewarming in the form of a cookout/pool party. There was a nice turn out of friends & family. The food was excellent. The weather was beautiful. All of this was rounded out by the superb company. And, there was pie!
The Oak Hill house has been transformed from unpacking phase straight to showplace due to what must have been a Herculean effort on the parts of our hosts. Their belongings plus the character of such an historic dwelling form a warm, welcoming home.
It’s good to have friends around, the more the better. Have a fun, safe & happy weekend, everyone.
